Out and About

Hot new talent to enter the Furnace
A night of fresh, young artists and performers is fanning the flames of south west London underground talent.

Ice skating at Kew GardensIce skating at Kew Gardens
Worried you are not good enough to attempt skating at one of London's outdoor rinks or, perhaps worse, are too good to be fenced in by a bunch of amateurs? Our two reporters, Nancy Groves and Paul Fleckney - of vastly differing skating abilities - went to Kew Gardens rink and found that, regardless of talent, Christmas spirit binds us together like sticky tinsel. Merry Christmas everybody!

Winter Open Studios - Wimbledon Art StudiosWinter Open Studios - Wimbledon Art Studios
It is an unlikely place to go hunting for art - down behind the rubbish bins and warehouses of a south London industrial estate.

Picture Gallery tells a thousand storiesPicture Gallery tells a thousand stories
For all the delight and innocence of Dulwich Picture Gallery's new exhibition, there lies some pretty sad tales of the artists behind them. Nowhere to Belong: Tales of an Extravagant Stranger with Yasmin Alibhai-Brown Nowhere to Belong: Tales of an Extravagant Stranger with Yasmin Alibhai-Brown
They say life imitates art. But when a young Yasmin Alibhai-Brown played Juliet opposite a black Romeo at school, the uproar in her local community was louder than anything Shakespeare could have scripted.

When it comes to film, Wandsworth doesn't just host Hollywood A-listers for some lights, camera, action (like David Schwimmer, for example, who shot many scenes for Run, Fat Boy, Run in Battersea Park), but the odd movie star lives here as well, such as Keira Knightley.

There are few things more irritating than somebody interrupting you for a chat when you are trying to work.

One Culture at Wandsworth Arts FestivalOne Culture at Wandsworth Arts Festival
Munich? Pah! Wandsworth is the place to be in October, thanks to the borough's Arts Festival, and Putney Arts Theatre is getting stuck in with a month of exhibitions and shows coming up. More of the art later (it is a theatre first and foremost), as two vastly differing productions will be literally taking the stage over the next few weeks.
