CHIPPENHAM striker Alan Griffin is cursing his luck as he faces a long injury lay-off weeks after establishing himself in the team.

Griffin was injured in the last minute of the 2-1 defeat at Salisbury City on Saturday in a clash with the home side's keeper.

It is feared that Griffin has sustained cartilage damage and could miss anything from a couple of weeks to the rest of the season, although he will undergo a scan tomorrow when a more accurate assessment of the injury can be made.

The forward went with his brother Charlie, who plays for Wycombe Wanderers, to see their physio on Monday.

"I'm struggling, to be honest," said Griffin. "I went to Wycombe on Monday with my brother and the physio there said the best thing I can do is have a scan on it.

"I'm disappointed because I just got into the team and it took a while until Christmas when I got a little run going, and this has set me back a bit.

"I got into the team and I was doing all right and it was coming to an important part of the season, but hopefully I'll only be out for a couple of weeks and then I can try and get back in the team."

Manager Darren Perrin said Griffin's loss was a huge blow.

"I think Alan Griffin deserves a lot of credit and praise for his efforts this season," he said.

"He's been one of our best players, if not the best, in the last two months. I'm gutted for him."
