Toby Jones has revealed he cannot wait to get started on the Alice In Wonderland sequel.

The 48-year-old actor is to voice a new character called Wilkins in Alice In Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass, alongside Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen.

"They had to get a very big voiceover studio for me to move around in. With animation, you have to get physically (involved)," he said.

"I find myself moving around so there's a bit of negotiation with that. But I'm really looking forward to doing that one."

Directed by The Muppets' James Bobin, the film, which also stars Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen and Stephen Fry, will be released in 2016.

Toby, who has appeared in The Hunger Games films and Harry Potter, recently played Neil Baldwin in BBC Two drama Marvellous, and he said variety is the spice of life.

"The chief pleasure I have in my job is contrast. It's a huge privilege in my work that I get to go from community to community, family to family, working on different jobs," he continued.

While he's happy to try different roles, he's less likely to watch himself back on screen.

"I don't particularly enjoy watching myself, only because I'm watching myself and so I'm slightly distracted from the whole thing. It's just an unusual function of being an actor - it's a weird thing where you get to watch your behaviour having experienced it," he said.

"There's a discrepancy between how something felt to do and how it looks, and it takes a while to get used to the fact that it never looks like how it felt to do. There's an air of slight disappointment always, 'I wanted it to be like that'."
