Meryl Streep and Melissa Leo are among the stars who have paid tribute after actress Misty Upham was found dead.

The Native-American actress and activist - who was known for films such as Frozen Rover, August: Osage County and Django Unchained - was reported missing on October 6.

A body that was found in a ravine in Seattle on October 16 has now been confirmed to be that of the actress, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The missing woman's uncle and two other searchers apparently found the body.

Misty, 32, was reported missing after her family told police they were concerned for her welfare.

Her father, Charles Upham, told KIRO-FM that his daughter was upset and erratic and had stopped taking medication for anxiety and bipolar disorder.

However, Seattle-based filmmaker Tracy Rector, a friend of the actress, said the family don't believe she committed suicide.

Hollywood stars Meryl and Melissa are among those who have expressed their condolences.

Meryl, who worked with the actress on August: Osage County, said she was "so so sad to hear this news".

"All our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit," she said.

Melissa, who co-starred with Upham in Frozen River, said: "Such a loss... so sad, so so sad."
