Taking the plunge and ready to bare all, Claygate Dramatic Society will portray the story of middle aged Women’s Institute (WI) members who strip down for charity.

Following the death of Angela Baker’s husband from leukemia in 1998, the woman of Knapeley WI in the Yorkshire Dales made the courageous decision to strip off for an alternative WI calendar to raise money for a sofa for the hospital waiting area.

The result was something they could never have foreseen, with worldwide fame and more than £3m raised for leukemia research.

Not all about a group of women stripping off, told with warmth and wit, Calendar Girls also provides food for thought as the audience will see how they built up their courage to reveal nearly everything, and how they cope when the world’s media descends on their small community.

Emotions run high and their relationships are put to the test, but the women come out stronger in the end.

The performing rights for Calendar Girls have been released for amateur production for a limited period, with the producers aiming to establish the record for the most productions of a play in one calendar year, at the same time as raising funds for leukemia.
