A night dedicated to Judy Garland is taking place at Fairfield Halls this week, writes Andy Bloss.

Garland and her daughter Liza Minnelli’s world famous 1964 London Palladium concert is to be recreated Fairfield Halls, Concert Hall on the 44th anniversary of Garland’s death.

On June 22nd 1969, Garland was found dead by Mickey Deans her final husband in the bathroom of their rented house at 4 Cadogan Lane in Chelsea, London.

Garland had turned 47 just days before her death.

Judy & Liza is touring for a limited season throughout June and stars West End leading ladies Lucy Williamson, who was in We Will Rock You, as Garland and Emma Dears who featured in Oliver, as Minnelli.

This production, which is seen as a fitting tribute to the mother and daughter icons, tells the turbulent stories of the legendary performers against the backdrop of their London Palladium concert.

Judy and Liza will take the audience through their triumphant highs, heart wrenching lows and everything in between against a backdrop of footage, photos and all of their most famous hits including ‘Cabaret’, ‘The Man That Got Away’, ‘Liza with a Z’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’.

The show’s writer and producer Emma Dears says: "When I worked in the West End, people always used to tell me that I looked and sounded like Liza Minnelli.

"So I looked into her life and the life of Judy Garland and became fascinated with their touching stories and the way that their songs highlighted and bookended various points throughout their time.

"We’ve enjoyed some amazing press and audience feedback from our previous tour so we thought it the time to get the show back out onto the road so the fans of Judy & Liza can re- visit the show and we can attract even more audiences.

"I hope that the story touches the audiences’ lives in the same way that it’s touched mine and being able to perform this show which means so much to Lucy and I, on the anniversary of her death, will be a very special evening and we promise to do her legacy proud."
