Victorian literature’s most famous characters all crop up in a musical comedy heading to the stage in Carshalton in March.

Youngsters aged seven to 18 from Spiral Youth Theatre will perform Olivia at Stanley Park High School on March 5.

The show traces the steps of young Olivia from downtrodden orphan to star of the stage, with a little help from Eliza Doolittle, Fagin, the Artful Dodger, Sherlock Holmes, Gilbert and Sullivan and George Bernard Shaw.

Director Kate Puleston said: “Many of the children that have come to Spiral have gone on to be theatre professionals and teachers and have used the spiral ethos, that all children can build confidence by learning to speak in public and address an audience, in their own careers, skills we use in many jobs and not just acting.

“Rehearsals have been a lot of fun with Irish jigs, many musical numbers, more plot twists than a whodunnit and even a trip to the opera.”
