A heroic outlaw and his band of Merry Men are coming to Sutton for the pantomime season.
Thigh-slapping Robin Hood, dressed in tights, will be robbing the rich to give to the poor as he battles the evil Sheriff of Nottingham at the Secombe Theatre this January.
The performance is the latest offering from the Carshalton Pantomime Company, which has produced traditional family pantomimes for more than 40 years to raise money for local charities.
Director David Barnfather says: “There is something for all the family here and we are always thrilled to be back at the Secombe for the pantomime season. We have great fun putting on these shows, and have done for many years.
"It is all about songs music and laughter but there is also a very serious aim, to raise much-needed money for local charities.”
The Carshalton Pantomime Company, now in its 47th year, usually raises about £14,000 for charities including Friends of Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children and Orchard Hill, the Diamond Riding Centre for disabled riders and Wolfson and Adolescent Cancer Centre at the Royal Marsden.
Geoff Markham from the Diamond Riding Centre says: “The Carshalton Pantomime Company has consistently supported the Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders for many years and currently sponsors two of the centre’s horses.”
However, for the cast and crew, who have spent months learning dance routines, painting sets and fitting costumes, the show offers a chance to share in the magic of the festive season.
Cast member Brian Turner, who plays Dame Matilda Merryman, said: “There is something very special about pantomime. It can be a child’s first experience of the theatre or a lifelong tradition for a grown-up; we love the magic of it all.”
With vibrant costumes and sets, a traditional pantomime dame and a principal boy, the show promises to have something for all ages.
