A critically-acclaimed dance and theatre company has prepared four performances as part of an Olympics and Paralympics inspired programme.

Signdance collective, the theatre company in residence at Buckinghamshire New University are preparing for a fortnight at The Warehouse Theatre.

Combining both dance and drama the group will stage play New Gold, an irreverent look at competition and winning, that will also incorporate performances from Half A Penny.

Tied in with this dual performance will be CAMPAIGNTOBEME workshops giving young people the chance to be involved both by contributing their ideas and performing alongside Signdance during their evening performances.

Alongside this will be sessions during the day held by Handprint who create theatre accessible for deaf children, called Soapy Sam, including puppet workshops.

Main event New Gold takes up the idea of the Olympic spirit and challenges the notion of whether competition is really necessary at all.

The cast includes Signdance Collective’s artistic director David Bower, who starred in the Hollywood hit Four Weddings and a Funeral, Cuban dancer Isolte Avila and actor Dexter Hamlett.

Isolte says: "New Gold has been hugely well-received wherever we have performed it and we are sure that will also be the case at Warehouse Theatre.

"We are very lucky to also benefit from a run by the excellent Dexter Hamlett and look forward to contributing to what is sure to be an enriching cultural experience."
