Rapstar Chipmunk will headline a concert inspired by the riots and established to promote good will and peace.

Singer-song writer Mark-Anthony Abel was so horrified by the actions of the August riots he was inspired to respond to show people can be as proactive as they can be destructive and promote peace.

Working with the councils and communities from the five boroughs – Lambeth, Bromley, Lewisham, Southwark and Croydon – Mark-Anthony and a dedicated team of volunteers has established the Crystal Palace Peace charity to run the event set at Crystal Palace Concert Bowl on September 1.

Having successfully secured a license to hold the festival, which will run from noon to 10pm, Mark-Anthony, who has organised numerous live gigs across London, has begun signing up artists, with young rapper Chipmunk topping the bill.

He says: "The support we have had has been great. There wasn’t a single public objection to the license application and though the police had some issues, it has all been resolved so I am so grateful for their support."

In a bid to raise money for the event he has been letting out a room in his Upper Norwood home, and it was through his adverts he came to sign Chipmunk.

One of the guys interested in the ad knew a promoter. We got in touch and Chipmunk loved the idea."

The 20-year-old broke onto the music scene with a bang in 2009 with his no.1 single Oopsy Daisy while his debut album I am Chipmunk charted at no. 2 Other highlights include Shezar, the sister of hip hop artist Labrinth, rock band Sunday Recovery and Funk group Alice in Grooveland.

As part of the event Mark-Anthony is inviting the mayors of all five boroughs to meet and show a sign of solidarity that everyone can work in harmony.

He says: "I met the mayor of Bromley at a Jubilee Street Party and invited him but I want all the mayor s to come."
