Lollipop man attacked outside school

A lollipop man has been left with serious head injuries after being attacked outside a primary school this morning.

Wiktor Molleskog was on duty outside Greenvale Primary School, Sandpiper Road, Selsdon when the incident happened.

A motorist was heard shouting a threat at the 55-year-old lollipop man before driving off.

But it is believed the motorist returned a short while later, got out of his car and attacked his victim - repeatedly kicking him in the head.

Aline Holdsworth the school's headteacher said: "It is absolutely disgusting, he is a very respected man and well loved member of the community. The children at the school are very upset about that another adult could do this to somoene and have been making cards all afternoon which I am going to pop around to his house later on.

"It was a totally unprovoked attack and was disgraceful assault by someone who presumably lives in the local area. After the attack I collected his wife, Valerie, and we drove to Mayday Hospital. When she saw him she was really upset but also very angry. He was in severe shock and needed x-rays. He also looked like he had a broken nose as he had a lot of padding and blood around the nose. He also has a possible broken bone in his hand.

"It is so sad that a man doing such a worthwhile job could have been hurt in this way."

"I understand that a vehicle stopped far too close to the crossing and he spoke to the driver to tell him that this was unnecessary. The driver was rude to Victor and he was heard saying I'll be back to get you', and the driver then opened the car door and the woman in the passenger seat released the handbrake presumably to try and drive over Victor's feet and the car rolled forward into another vehicle.

"The driver then did indeed come back and got out of the car and samshed Victor's lollipop stick over his head causing him to fall to the floor before he was kicked several times in the head.

"Fortunately for the children the attack happened when the bell had gone and most of the children were in the school but of course a few children saw the attack and heard the foul language this man was using. It is just an appalling attack which happened in broad daylight to a man who was doing a worthwhile job for the community and he never should have had to sustain such vicious injuries."

Mr Molleskog was taken to Mayday Hospital, Thornton Heath but has since been transferred to St George's Hospital, Tooting.

Croydon Council, who employ the lollipop man, condemned the attack on a member of their staff.

Council leader Councillor Mike Fisher said: "I'm horrified to hear of this unwarranted, cowardly attack on a member of our staff who was doing nothing other than going about his lawful duty.

"Both myself and all my council colleagues thoroughly deplore this act and will not tolerate violence against any of our staff.

"The matter is, of course, being investigated and I'd request anybody who saw what happened - and at that time of day there were probably lots of people about - to contact the police and give their account."

A spokesman for Croydon Police said: "Police were called to Sandpiper Road, Croydon, at about 9am on Friday morning, to reports of an assault.

"Upon arrival police found a male with minor injuries at the scene.

"He was seen by the London Ambulance Service and taken to Mayday hospital suffering non life threatening injuries.

"The suspect drove off in what's believed to be a blue car.

"No arrests have been made."

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Let's hope they catch this Croydon chav-thug and lock him up so he can cool down for a few months!

This sort of cowardly and mindless behaviour is sick. I suppose the police will put this to the bottom of their pile of "pending" cases as the injuries were, according to them, "non life threatening " and thus of no importance. Hmm...

This assult is disgusting and totally cowardly. I wonder how old the attacker was compared to his victim! Its morons like this who need to be shot dead, along with his girlfriend. What kind of so-called woman, condones that sort of behavoir and joins in? If my boyfriend acted like that, I would be disgusted. And then for him to come back later, shows what kind of pathetic moron this excuse for a man is, that he has nothing better to do than seek revenge on an innocent lollipop man! I hope he gets what he deserves!

I'm surprised the police didn't arrest the lollipop man. So much easier than going after the real criminals.

Thats what these chavs do, see. Its all that interbreading between brothers/sisters/cou
sins that goes on amongst chavs.
Low intelligence, low self esteem, work shyness, not knowing who your real dad is and knowing your mother is a cheap and easy lay all affects their little brains and makes them act tough against people who are not in a position to fight back. "Wow Wayne! You beat up a lolly pop man in his 50's all by yourself??? You tough guy you!"
Cowardly scum.

Unfortunately, unless he carries out a minor traffic offence, there is very little chance of the Police taking any interest in these chav-thug types.
These days, in the minds of the Police, a person who's road tax is a month out of date is a worse criminal than someone who mugs and attacks people!

We all hope the lollipop man makes a full recovory, as it will be a sad loss if we lose our beloved lollipop man, because of a mindless act of violence

I hope that Mr Molleskog fares well with a speedy recovery.

St George's has an excellent Neurosurgical unit so he'll be in good hands.

I have deep concerns about what has happened as my mum is a lolly pop lady in Croydon. What are the council going to do about protecting them while they are doing their jobs. I know that on a daily basis lolly pop people are abused and shouted at is that part of the job! I dont think so

The people who have attacked this man while doing his job should suffer the same has he did. It will be a bad show if courts let these people off with a slapped wrist after what they have done.
