There will be one Crystal Palace fan in particular who will be hoping the bad weather stays away this weekend.

Kelvin Cooper, 41, a lifelong Eagles’ fan, is cycling from Brighton to Selhurst Park in a bid to raise money for the Crystal Palace Foundation and Deafness Research UK.

The cycle ride has extra significance with Crystal Palace taking on arch rivals Brighton this weekend.

Mr Cooper, is hoping to break the £500 barrier and if he does he will complete the ride in an elf costume.

He said: "I'm doing the cycle ride in memory of my mum who died from cancer just over five years ago.

"I've done a number of things since then in her memory, from marathons, boxing matches to skydives and bungee jumps, most things she wouldn't let me do as a kid.

"I've raised around £25k so far but it gets harder and harder each year and especially in these financial times.

He added: "I noticed this challenge on the Palace website and with our association with Brighton I just thought it was too good an opportunity to miss."
