Gangs of muggers have been preying on pupils as they make their way home from the BRIT School.

Teenage victims have been robbed of wallets, mobile phones and Oyster cards as criminals target students in the streets surrounding the performing arts college in Selhurst.

Staff have been accompanying groups on the short work to Selhurst rail station after lessons in response to pupils' concerns over safety.

One teen said students had even taken to carrying decoy mobile phones in a bid to avoid having their belongings stolen.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "We can confirm that here have been reported incidents of robbery of students’ possessions in Selhurst.

"We have been communicating with students, parents and staff as to how they can minimise risk and the school is taking measures to aid prevention of these crimes by working closely with the police and council to improve safety in the neighbourhood.

"It is paramount that our students feel safe. Therefore, in addition, we have made staff available to walk groups to the station in the evening, increased staff presence in the local streets at lunch time and after school."
