Commuters were left waiting out in the cold this morning as sleet and snow in nearby boroughs caused severe delays to trains.

South West trains said poor weather and ice affected services so fewer trains were able to run and delays of up to two hours could be expected in some areas.

At Teddington, St Margaret’s, Whitton and Hampton Wick rail stations trains that were scheduled to stop carried on past crowds of people waiting.

Commuters took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

Anton posted: “A light dusting and they cancelled all the trains through Teddington.”

Nancy Page said: “Trains don't appear to want to stop at Hampton wick this morning. Rather cold morning for it.”

Sarah Easter posted: “I waited 40 minutes at Teddington then gave up brr.”

Ben McCallum said: “No snow in Richmond/St Margarets where you're not allowing the trains to stop to collect passengers!”

Jason Noble posted: “Stopped train goes slowly pass Whitton just to tease everyone. It's not like he could have stopped to let people on.”

Glen Roberts said: “Got on a SW Trains service at Strawberry Hill and it didn't stop anywhere. Str8 to Warterloo. No announcements or anything.”

A signalling problem caused more delays between Fulwell and Shepperton, which have now been cleared and trains are running normally.
