A fleet of gritting lorries were out salting high priority roads last night before snow started to fall across Surrey.
Roads with heavy traffic, access routes to hospitals and major bus routes are among the priority one routes, which were salted ahead of forecast snow.
A spokeswoman said: "They did the priority one road network last night. The focus has to be on main roads and more hazardous areas."
Salt turns the ice or snow into a saline solution which has a lower freezing point than water.
Staff at rail stations also put down grit to keep the platforms safe.
A number of trains were subject to delays this morning after the snow began to lay at around 7am.
Sunshine is forecast for this afternoon with a likelihood of freezing temperatures tonight.
