Motorbike-riding robbers left one petrol station worker with a badly broken jaw and another in hospital after a raid on the Shell garage in Beddington Lane on Sunday evening.

One of the workers involved, the assistant manager, is still in hospital after having surgery to fix his broken jaw and the other has been discharged but has facial injuries following the robbery at around 8.05pm.

Four people wearing dark clothes and helmets pulled up to the petrol station on two motorbikes on Sunday evening. The two riders filled up their bikes while the pillion passengers went into the petrol service station shop.

The men attacked the cashier and demanded the keys to the safe. one of the men kicked down to door to an office where the assistant manager was working, attacked him with what is believed to be CS spray and assaulted him, breaking his jaw.

One of the men stayed at the entrance to the petrol station and diverted traffic away as if it was closed.

The robbers got away with around £300 in cash. They turned right into Beddington Lane but are thought to have turned off into waste ground shortly afterwards.

Petrol station manager Shailesh Patel said: "I saw my assistant manager in hospital and he is a bit frightened but OK. The cashier is very shaken but he is OK too.

"It does make you feel scared - they did all this for just £300. It does not seem worth it."
