The woman hit by a train in Kingston this morning had earlier been on the tracks at Norbiton, British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed.

Kingston station was closed for more than an hour today after a woman was hit by a train heading to Waterloo at around 10.15am.

She was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting with serious leg injuries, but is now said to be in a stable condition.

The incident followed an earlier episode at Norbiton when, at around 9.25am, trains were delayed after a woman was spotted on the tracks.

BTP has now confirmed the woman is the same person who was struck by the Kingston train almost an hour later.

A BTP spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Kingston rail station on Wednesday, 5 December after a report of a person being struck by a train.

“Medics from London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"BTP officers were also called to Norbiton station at 9.26am on Wednesday, 5 December after a report of a woman on the tracks.

"London Ambulance Service was also called but the woman left the scene before officers or medics arrived.

"Officers have since established this was the same woman later involved in the incident at Kingston station.

"BTP are currently investigating the full circumstances regarding both incidents."
