Potentially dangerous stunts involving a unicycle, mangle and glass box are helping to bring Aladdin to life.

Michael Jordan, who recently appeared on TV show Penn & Teller, is behind illusions in a pantomime opening on December 18 at Leatherhead Theatre.

Director Chris Gidney said that Mr Jordan planned to use potentially dangerous illusions involving a 7ft unicycle, not to mention the flying carpet.

Mr Gidney said: "He will even be attempting to make it snow on stage.

"Despite the on-stage danger, the audience is not at risk of anything except falling off their seats with fun and laughter.

"And we still plan to throw the traditional sweets into the audience, albeit soft ones!"

Leatherhead Theatre has been provided with written assurances and risk assessments of the dangers.

Technical manager Paul Ashcroft said: "While any danger is taken very seriously by producers and management, these experienced professional performers know exactly what they are doing and it promises to be a very exciting pantomime which will appeal across the age ranges."

Theatre manager Sheila Francis said: "We are thrilled to have Thats Entertainment Productions here this year, with a fantastic cast providing good value for money, including the stunts."
