A Sutton Cop has been named police officer of the year by the Metropolitan Police.

PC Scott Ayres, a member of the Stonecot Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), developed an IT system to help manage SNT deployments.

After looking at ways of tackling anti social behaviour in Stonecot Hill, PC Ayres realised there was no easy way to capture intelligence and record it so that the whole team could see it.

Using his IT skills he created Airspace version 1, which has since been developed to allow all 18 Safer Neighbourhoods Teams on Sutton Borough to use the system.

The system and is now due to be rolled out across the MPS.

Last month he received a Commendation at the Sutton Borough Commander's commendation ceremony in Bromley.

Prior to the award, Stonecot Sergeant Jessica Timms, said: "As PC Ayres' current supervisor, I cannot stress enough how much time and effort PC Ayres has put into this project.

"He has selflessly utilised his IT skills to develop the Airspace system for the benefit of his colleagues within the MPS. Throughout he has shown the highest level of commitment, not only to the Airspace project, but to his primary role as an SNT police constable."
