The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has announced a £7.4m transport kitty for Croydon.

The money will be invested in various transport projects that will benefit the community.

Money will go towards cycling, improving walking facilities, making roads safer, improving traffic flow, public squares and local shopping.

Around £292,000 is going towards improving bus journey times in Croydon. There will also be new bus shelters.

South Croydon will receive £800,000 for a street improvement scheme and £200,000 will go towards junction improvements around the borough.

Road safety will also receive heavy investment, with £881,000 going towards improvements such as pedestrian crossings and carriageway signs.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “This funding will benefit all of London and everyone living in, working in or visiting Croydon.

“A world class city deserves a world class transport system and the borough will use this money to make significant improvements for local people.”

London’s Transport Commissioner, Peter Hendy CBE said: “We are working in partnership with Croydon and with all the London boroughs to bring real improvements to communities across the city.

“The borough will be using this investment to fund hundreds of projects that will benefit all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.

“Public squares and local shopping areas will be rejuvenated, attracting more people to the area to boost the local economy.”
