Nearly £3m will be spent on transport improvements from next April.
Transport for London has allocated £2.7m for Merton through the Local Implementation Plan to spend on projects supporting the Mayor of London’s transport strategy in 2013/14.
The grant includes £260,000 to provide new bus stands, cycle paths and trees in Mitcham town centre and £330,000 for a borough-wide cycling training programme and new facilities.
There is also £260,000 for the Colliers Wood “corridor” project, which includes new measures to improve pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as clearing or "de-cluttering" street furniture and repaving roads near the former Brown and Root tower.
Boris Johnson, London’s mayor, said: "This funding will benefit all of London and everyone living in, working in or visiting Merton.
“A world class city deserves a world class transport system and the borough will use this money to make significant improvements for local people."
