Croydon Council have doubled their recycling efforts after they were caught by a Croydon Guardian investigation sending recylable material to landfill.

The Croydon Guardian reported on October 16 that the council was sending recyclable materials to landfill.

General waste bins have now been removed from beneath worker’s desks.

There are now central clusters of bins specifically marked for certain materials from plastic bottles to general landfill.

Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: "The Croydon Guardian rightly pulled us up when we were found to be wanting in our own recycling efforts.

"We took the criticism on the chin and immediately set about providing recycling facilities that are an improvement on those that were already in place. Things are 100 per cent better as a result."
