The Purley Way will now re-open at lunchtime today after delays in repairing the road following a burst water main.

The A23 Purley Way southbound has been closed after emergency repairs were carried out on Mitcham Road near the Lombard Roundabout.

Thames Water fixed the water main yesterday afternoon and hoped to re-open the road in time for yesterday’s evening rush hour.

But repairing the road has taken longer than first thought and it is now expected to reopen at 1pm.

A spokesman said: “The lane will reopen at 1pm. The closure will affect the morning rush hour.

“We have to make sure the road is safe to use again and that it is repaired fully.”
