Plans to rebuild Purley Fire Station have been approved by the council.

The station is set to close for refurbishment in 2014, with the Purley crew moving to Mitcham Fire Station, which is also being rebuilt this year.

The three storey building will include a community space which will be used to give fire safety advice and education to the public.

It will have enough room to accommodate two fire appliances, a new washdown area, operational accommodation including station office and equipment stores, a lecture room and a gymnasium

London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner Andy Hickmott said: “The aim is to further improve the fire and rescue service we are able to offer the people of Croydon.”
