A glass designer has beaten off competition from over 90 other artists to have her work selected for inclusion in a major new exhibition.

Curators picked Flora Borealis, a glass artwork by Angela Thwaites, from Croydon, to be displayed in New Glass - Ancient Skill, Contemporary Artform at a gallery in Cumbria.

Ms Thwaites, who has displayed work around the world, is among 31 artists chosen for the exhibition at Blackwell Arts and Craft House in Bowness-on-Windermere from January 31.

Her work was selected by a panel made up of Reino Leifkes, senior curator of glass and ceramics at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Victoria Scholes, chair of the Contemporary Glass Society and Helen Watson, director of exhibitions and collections at the Lakeland Arts Trust.
