The endoscopy unit at BMI Shirley Oaks Hospital has been renamed in honour of one of its founders who died last year.

Staff, consultants and patients gathered to pay tribute to consultant gastroenterologist Dr Andrew Theodossi who had worked at the hospital since 1986.

Dr Theodossi helped set up and develop the hospital's endoscopy department, and to celebrate his career in medicine a special plaque was unveiled and the name of the unit he helped found was changed to The Theodossi Gastrointestinal Investigation Unit.

Amanda Whitton, Endoscopy Manager at the hospital said: "Dr Theodossi was much loved by patients and staff alike and the achievements he made during his 25 years at BMI Shirley Oaks Hospital is reflected by us renaming the unit in his honour.

"After a sudden illness his loss came as a great shock to us but his memory will live on in the work of our team."

He treated me many times. Always stopped to talk to me if he saw me anywhere outside. Lovely man.
