Croydon residents remember Holocaust victims
3:20pm Tuesday 29th January 2013 in News
Residents gathered to remember victims of the Holocaust and other genocides at a candle lighting ceremony this week.
The remembrance service, which fell on Holocaust Memorial Day, took place at Croydon Town Hall on Monday, which was followed by a civic event in the afternoon.
The Memorial Day remembers those murdered in the Holocaust and in subsequent genocides including in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.
In Croydon the theme for 2013 was “Communities Together: Build a Bridge”.
Each of the borough’s libraries had a dedicated Holocaust Memorial Day exhibition.
Councillor Vidhi Mohan, cabinet member for communities and economic development, said: “We must never forget those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and continue to fight prejudice, discrimination and hatred.”
