Residents are being warned to keep their jewellery safe after three burglaries in one day.

Croydon police are advising residents, particularly those within the Asian community with Asian gold, to secure their items inside their home, following the three burglaries which were reported on Monday.

At one address in Bishop's Walk in Heathfield, the suspects are believed to have broken into the house and stolen several thousands of pounds worth of Asian gold jewellery, as well as a large quantity of cash.

Another address in Pitt Road, Thornton Heath was targeted by thieves who also made off with a quantity of Asian gold from the house.

A third property in Barnfield Avenue, Heathfield, was also broken into, but no gold jewellery was taken.

A police spokesman said they were keeping an open mind as to whether there are any links between the burglaries.

Detective Inspector Brian Hobbs from Croydon CID said: "We know due to the generally high quality and value of Asian gold, that thieves are targeting people with these items.

"Our advice is to consider installing a safe in your home to store such items, or think about putting rarely used items into a safety deposit box elsewhere."

Residents are also advised to have a good description or photos of expensive items.

Det Hobbs added: "we would also remind people when you are out and about wearing gold jewellery to cover it up where possible."

No arrest have been made in connection with any of the burglaries and enquiries continue.
