Firefighters were called to a fire at a jerk chicken shop in Selhurst this morning.

Pumps from Woodside and Norbury fire stations were called to Tasty Jerk on Whitehorse Lane, at 3.20am.

The fire is believed to have been started after spreading from the jerk pans used to cook food.

Watch manager Nicola Jaques said: "The cook was using several jerk pans which must have caught when they were unaware. It grew up into the extractor and had spread into the roof when we arrived.

"We saved 90 percent of the roof and 80 percent of the property was undamaged."

The fire was out fully within an hour and firefighters remained at the scene for another hour removing panels to ensure the fire was out.

Watch manager Jaques praised the crews work.

She said: "The crews worked very well, hard and fast to stop the fire spreading. The initial crew did such a good job ensuring it didn't escalate."

Local residents are all too aware of Tasty Jerk, which pollutes local homes with seeming impunity.
