Aspiring stock brokers have won the first phase of a national competition for the third year in a row.

Students from Trinity School triumphed in the ifs Student Investor Challenge - which gives students the chance to practice investing in the stock market.

The team of Year 13 pupils beat 7,500 teams to come top of the league, in the national share trading competition.

Stochastic, the winning team, was made up of George Webb, Ejaaz Ahamadeen, Peter Chambers and Edward Tidball.

The group, who had already scooped a prize for being the best-performing regional team in November, will each receive a cheque in the post as a reward for coming top.

Over a three month period the sixth-formers turned the virtual £100,000 they were given to invest into a share portfolio, into £202,341.

Their victory means Stochastic now qualifies for the next round on March 13.
