Croydon Tech City will be hosting their first education event this Thursday.

Six volunteers from the group, which aims to turn the town into a technological hub, have set up the Croydon Code Club.

The aim of the club is to go into primary schools and teach school children computer programming.

Volunteers working on the project include Monique Rebeiro, Director of Lives Not Knives, Simon Bird who is the founder and director of dot Digital and Ally McKinlay from the Healthy Living Project.

All Primary School Head teachers and Senior Leadership Team members from Central Croydon have been personally invited to attend this meeting by the MP for Croydon Central, Gavin Barwell.

He said: “The Croydon Tech City movement is an incredible idea and has my full backing.

“Part of this involves engaging young people and crucially helping them to develop the skills they will need to compete in the future global marketplace.”

Code Club’s first meeting will be on Thursday 21 February 2013, at 7.30pm at Matthews Yard, Croydon.
