Territorial Army soldiers from Coulsdon were among more than 200 military personnel recognised for their role in last summer's Olympics.

Members of the 41 Signal Squadron, based in Marlpit Lane, supported the security operation at the O2 Arena, Olympic Park and the Excel Centre.

They were formally thanked by Darren Johnson, deputy chair of the London Assembly, at the City Hall earlier this month.

Lance corporal Robin Young, who lives in Coulsdon and works in Sainsbury's, said: "The Olympic and Paralympics Games were a once in a generation event.

"I feel extremely proud and privileged to have played a role in supporting the country and contributing to a successful, safe and secure Olympic Games. And the public were absolutely amazing to us.”
