The Crystal Palace Overground Festival will take place in June The Crystal Palace Overground Festival will take place in June

The organisers of Crystal Palace Festival have announced the dates for this year's event.

The four day Crystal Palace Overground Festival will take place from Thursday June 27 until Sunday June 30, and will include a range of free events across various festival hubs, including performing arts, crafts, holistic and sports activities, as well as live music.

The festival which first ran in 2007, will also have DJs and food as well as an ale and cider festival.

An estimated 4,500 people attended last years event and organisers are calling on the community to get involved.

Noreen Meehan, festival director said: "The festival has been growing each year with more and more visitors and volunteers but we need help to ensure its future.

"Our local businesses have done an amazing job of supporting the festival so far but funding is getting tighter in the current climate of cuts and continuing economic woes.

"Our festival is special and helps our community come together as one so it’s important that it continues. If you can help with fundraising, grants or would like to sponsor or advertise with the festival, then do get in touch and help make the festival even bigger and better in 2013."

I love Crystal Palace-and I love the Overground festival...but...as someone who lives adjacent to Westow Park, I hope they do a better job this year and in the future of liasing with local residents. We have never been "asked", after all..

Hello I am the chair of the festival and would like to respond to your concerns.

When our original premise licence was granted we put up the required posters around Westow Park to inform local residents and to give them a chance to respond to the application. No objections were made so we were granted the licence at that stage.

Last year we were asked by Croydon Council to send all the local residents who live on the park a letter letting them know when the festival was taking place and providing contact details for the team should there be any issues. We did this for as many residents as we thought existed but it sounds like we didn't manage to get one to you. Apologies for that but we are a team of local volunteers and resources are tight. We will be doing the same thing this year so please do contact us via our info@crystalpalacefe
stival.org email address to let us know your details.

We also held an open meeting in December 2012, advertised on local community websites and put up posters, posted it on Facebook and Twitter, to consult with the local community about the festival.

I am very sorry these things didn't reach you - we do try as hard as we can within our limited voluntary resources to consult with local people.

Please feel free to write to us or if you would like to meet with me in person I am more than happy to come and have a chat and talk feedback.

Kind regards
Noreen Meehan
