Beddington storage firm removes stacked containers in breach of planning permission

A storage firm which breached planning permission by stacking shipping containers on top of each other has been asked to take them down.

Casey’s Removals, at 144 Beddington Lane, did not have the relevant planning permission to stack large shipping containers just metres from the road.

However, after discussions with the council’s Planning Enforcement team, the company removed the second tier of containers last week.

Councillor Jayne McCoy, chair of the Housing, Economy and Business Committee said: “This is case was brought to our attention last year and we have worked closely with the company to come to a satisfactory conclusion.

“We want to support local businesses in Sutton, but also must make sure that their practices are within planning regulations for the safety of those in their community.”

The action forms part of a wider scheme of stricter enforcement in the Beddington area in response to residents’ concerns.
