Cannabis factory raided by police Cannabis factory raided by police

More than 100 cannabis plants were discovered following a police raid in Thornton Heath on Tuesday.

Officers from the West Thornton Safer Neighbourhoods Team along with Selhurst SNT and Croydon Town Centre Team raided the cannabis factory at 7.30am.

They found about 130 cannabis plants along with several bags of herbal cannabis and other drugs equipment at an industrial unit in Oakwood Road, West Thornton.

Residents raised suspicions about the property when they told police that snow on the roof was melting faster compared to other properties.

Officers carried out further checks and applied for the search warrant at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday February 26.

Sergeant James Hodges, from the West Thornton Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “This was a well established cannabis factory, and even when we went inside the building, we couldn’t smell the cannabis straight away, so it had been well ventilated and insulated.

“Thanks to the local businesses we were alerted to the premises and were able to secure a search warrant.

“We would encourage our local residents to get in touch and tell us if they have similar concerns about drugs and we will take action.”
