Croydon Council land searches manager Shirley Crook has been commended for her work.
Everyone who buys a house or leases a flat in Croydon uses the team to check that there are no hidden surprises once the sale goes through.
The team look out for issues such as extensions that have been put up without approval.
Councillor Sara Bashford, cabinet member for corporate and voluntary services, said: "Shirley is certainly an asset to Croydon, and we’re proud of the positive impact she has had."
