Warlingham Park School pupils celebrate World Book Day with fizz-whopping Roald Dahl costumes
10:54am Friday 8th March 2013 in News By Chris Baynes, Reporter
Primary school pupils had fizz-whopping fun dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl characters for World Book Day
Children and teachers at Warlingham Park School the likes of Willy Wonka, the Oompa Loompas and the Twits to life with their colourful costumes yesterday.
An action-packed day of literary fun saw youngsters act out the story of The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me, learn the Oompa Loompa dance and honk out a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory medley on kazoos.
School cooks dished up scrumdiddlyumptious 'Roly-Poly Bird pie' and Wonka chocolate bars for lunch.
Headteacher Mike Donald, who donned the famous top hat and purple jacket of Willy Wonka, said: "World Book Day this year gives Warlingham Park School a great opportunity to celebrate the works of Roald Dahl.
"The pupils have the chance to be their favourite characters and act out the stories that they enjoy so much.
"Combining role play with literature is an excellent way of bringing fiction to life and encouraging children to improve their already impressive reading standards.”
