Property matchmakers introduced hundreds of househunters to potential roommates and landlords last week.

More than 200 people attended the property swap event held by Croydon Council at Fairfield Halls on Tuesday, March 5, with those looking for accommodation meeting people with spare rooms.

It led to 198 people requesting to view properties.

It comes ahead of the introduction benefit cuts for tenants with spare bedrooms in April.

Councillor Dudley Mead, cabinet member for housing, said: “We want to help tenants who will be affected by the benefit changes in April.

“We were delighted by the turn out and the number of requests we have had to view properties.

“There are already plans in the pipeline to hold another property swap event and we will be announcing details in due course.”
