Further to other letters re parking in Epsom, I recently parked for less than an hour in the town hall car park.

This was at 5.46pm - we were going for a very quick meal.  When I went to get my ticket, like others at the machine I was puzzled - as well as the hourly charge - a very expensive £1.80 - you also have to pay the overnight charge if you will be there after 6.30pm.

Thus, for 45 minutes, it cost me £3.  This is quite clearly an anomaly and not what the council intended when it made the regulations. So I wrote and asked for a refund.

Not a bit of it - the reply I got was basically "rules is rules - if you don't like it you have a choice".  Quite so - I do have a choice.  My choice is that I will go to another local town or village and never go to Epsom for an early evening meal again and I suspect that I am not the only one to make this choice.

Epsom town centre suffers once again and the reason is quite obvious - parking is  prohibitively expensive.  Of course, the council are to blame for a lot of Epsom's demise.  Again, as someone else wrote, the traffic is appalling due, to a large part, to the council putting bus stands on the A24.
