Residents can try to jig their way to a world record at O’Neill’s in Kingston tomorrow night in the run up to St Patrick’s Day.

The pub chain is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for amount of people Irish dancing at the same time. The current record stands at 10,036.

Nicola Byrne, O’Neill’s Kingston manager, said: “This year, which is the fourth year of O’Neill’s’ Join the Jig events, sees our first ever world record attempt and we really want the people of Kingston to join us.”

To take part, go along to O’Neill’s on Thursday from 7pm. The record attempt will take place at 8pm. There will be Irish dancers at the pub teaching residents how to jig, and a film crew.

Forty-nine O’Neill’s across the country will be participating. Their attempts will be put onto YouTube.

The current record, set in 2007, saw 10,036 people doing the jib at the Dublin Irish Festival in Ohio, USA.

Anyone who wants to help beat that record should arrive at the pub from 7pm, ready to begin at 8pm and be prepared to dance for five minutes.
