Ice skating and outdoor film screenings will be coming to Fairfield Halls as part of plans to inject fresh cultural life into central Croydon.
The council has unveiled its vision for Fairfield, which it claims will create a vibrant mix of cultural, educational, residential and commercial uses and improve the appearance of the area.
The Fairfield Masterplan, drawn up following consultation with local groups, encompasses the area around the concert venue and Croydon College between George Street, Park Lane, Barclay Road and the railway lines.
The plans, approved by the cabinet on Monday night, are separate from £27m refurbishment of Fairfields Halls, but will mean a programme of outdoor events to complement those at the venue.
They have been drafted by the Fairfield stakeholder board, which includes key landowners, institutions and statutory organisations.
