Councillor Simon Hoar: Powers will make residents safer Councillor Simon Hoar: Powers will make residents safer

Two new dispersal zones have been implemented in Waddon and Thornton Heath.

It comes after businesses, residents' associations and the Neighbourhood Watch complained that Imperial Way in Waddon, was being plagued by inconsiderate drivers.

Similar problems were reported on Lysander Road and Pegasus Road in Thornton Heath, where residents have also complained they are being intimidated by youths.

The dispersal zone includes Grange Road, Beauchamp Road, Burlington Road, Beulah Crescent and Sandfield Passage, and the area along the railway line from Sandfield Road to Grange Road.

They apply to all ages and give police extra powers and help to stop individuals and groups from causing a disturbance.

The orders run for six months from March 11.

Councillor Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety, said: "We have listened to local residents and businesses and are keen to support their calls to improve their communities and make them safer."
