Two men who died on the A3 between Hook and Esher last week have been named.

A man who fell from the Clayton Road bridge over the A3 northbound has been identified as Brian Self, 77, from Epsom.

Police were called at 9.26am on Thursday, March 14, to a report of a man threatening to jump from the bridge.

Members of the public and the first officers on the scene attempted to engage with the man, but he fell from the bridge at 9.34am.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but died a short time later.

A second man died after his motorbike crashed into a London Ambulance Service ambulance that was parked partly on the central reservation and partly on the A3 while dealing with the previous incident.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 10am. He has been formally identified as Dr Rajesh Parkesh, 43, from Ascot.

Nearly a week on from the two incidents, Surrey Police are making a fresh appeal for witnesses.

Officers are urging motorists who either regularly use the trunk road or who were in the area last Thursday to think back and consider whether they witnessed any part of either of the two incidents.

Detective Sergeant Gary Wright said: “We have already spoken to a number of witnesses to these incidents, both at the scene and following our initial appeal for information.

“I would ask anyone who saw either of these incidents who we have not already spoken to get in touch as soon as possible.

“This was a tragic series of events which occurred in a very public setting and I would also urge anyone who has been affected by witnessing either of these incidents to seek appropriate support.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police’s collision investigation unit on 01483 639922.
