Primary schools in Merton are set to get a share of a £150m fund as part of London 2012s Olympic legacy.

Merton will receive a lump sum of £403,900 from the fund which aims to improve the quality or provision of sports coaching and equipment in every state primary school in England.

The money will go directly to headteachers at the school for them to spend on sports at their school.

As a result, Ofsted will now take a stronger line on its inspection of sport provision in schools with a revised handbook due to be published in September 2013.

The two-year scheme will be funded by the Department for Education, Department of Health and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
