Wellesley Road Croydon makes top 10 of slowest roads in London

A dual carriageway in Croydon has been named one of the slowest 'rush-hour' roads in London.

It may come as no surprise to some commuters that Wellesley Road has is the eighth most congested road in the capital, according to a survey by GPS vehicle tracking supplier RAM Tracking.

Drivers travelling along the road between 8am and 9am in February, travelled at an average of just 1.14mph.

But if you think that's bad, spare a thought for the people stuck on Jamaica Road in Southwark, London's most congested road, where motorists travel at 0.08mph in the morning peak.

The study looked at a total of 444,000 journeys made across the country last month.

Chris McClellan of RAM Tracking said: "Our findings have revealed what a phenomenal amount of time many business drivers waste when travelling during the breakfast rush hour."

If the Whitgift redevelopers get their way, there will be more traffic and so congestion and air pollution. The Good News is that Wellesley Road will then reach the number 1 slot.
