An aspiring rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting because of a running feud between his brother and one of his alleged killers, a court has heard.

Umar Tufail, 25, was shot in the head at close range as he sat in a car outside his family home on July 15, 2012.

The gunman was travelling in a second car which pulled up alongside Mr Tufail in Wharncliffe Road, South Norwood.

The driver, Sanchez Thomas, and passenger, Kyrone Daley, offer conflicting accounts of who fired the fatal shot.

Today the Old Bailey heard that Mr Thomas, 19, of Upper Norwood, had a history of bad blood with Mr Tufail's younger brother Amir.

Amir, known by the nickname Rems, allegedly stabbed Mr Thomas, a member of South London gang Squeeze Section, in Tooting in March, 2012.

Mr Daley, 19, claimed Mr Thomas had been giving him a lift to his girlfriend's house on the day Umar was killed.

He said they spotted Umar, who is said to closely resemble his brother, and stopped beside his red Corsa to talk to him.

According to Mr Daley, Mr Thomas repeatedly accused the victim of being Amir, which Umar denied.

Prosecutor William Boyce QC, reading from Mr Daley's defence statement, said: "Thomas reached down below the driver's seat and drew out what transpired to be a firearm, which Daley was completely unaware he had in his possession.

"When Thomas established that the victim was the brother of Rems he, without any notice, shot him."

The pair then drove back to Mr Thomas's house in Unity Close before travelling by taxi to Fulham.

Mr Daley, of no fixed abode, claims he stayed with Mr Thomas after the shooting because he "felt pressured to do so".

Mr Thomas denies being the killer and claims one of Mr Daley's friends, known as Pauser, fired the fatal shot.

He said the accused pair had picked up the friend, a member of Croydon gang Don't Say Nothing, after Mr Daley had spotted him walking by the road. Pauser then asked for a lift to Spa Hill, Mr Thomas claimed.

Mr Thomas, known as Limits, claims he then spotted Umar and stopped to talk to him about his brother "to ensure the violence was not repeated".

He alleged Pauser then reached over and shot Umar through the car's open window.

The trial, which began on Monday, was delayed for a week as police hunted for Pauser.

After tracing someone who fitted his name and detailed description, they found him to have a "cast-iron alibi" and phone records showing him to have been in Maidstone at the time of Umar's murder.

Mr Thomas claims the gunman was a different man also called Pauser, but Mr Boyce said Mr Thomas had "boxed himself in completely".

He told jurors that Mr Daley and Mr Thomas were jointly to blame for the murder, regardless of which one had pulled the trigger.

He said: "One of them has then deliberately executed a young man.

"And you would not even think of doing that with someone sat next to you unless he was in it with you."

Both men deny murder as the trial continues.
