A recent survey of traffic speeds and volume in the South Sutton 20 mph area shows that many anti-social motorists avoid the town centre at speeds double the limit. At a Sutton community and police forum meeting the borough police Commander said that 20 mph zones should be self-enforcing.
The cheapest and most effective way of doing this is to maximize the number of parking spaces.
Proof of this is to be seen at the southern end of Langley Park Road and the western end of Cedar Road. Parking meter charges should be set at levels to encourage use by commuters and shoppers. Slower vehicle speeds might help increase cycling and walking.
For this reason I support the sale of the Brighton Road car park.
