A charity abseil for Princess Alice Hospice was postponed due to high winds and heavy rain.
More than 60 supporters of the Esher hospice were ready to go over the edge at the Queens stand at Epsom racecourse, but organisers decided it was safety first due to concerns over high winds.
Sandra Harper, 65, from West Ewell, was to abseil down the 90ft stand in memory of her son Dan “Spanners” Riglin, who died at the age of 32 in August 2010, after a seven-year battle with a brain tumour.
Mr Riglin spent the last three weeks of his life at the hospice.
Ms Harper, who has a fear of heights, was ready in her harness all set to go when the decision was made to postpone the event.
She said: “It was quite useful for me to have had the ‘dry run’. I now know exactly where I will be doing it.
“Quite a few family and friends turned up to support me but they have promised to return.”
Princess Alice Hospice has rescheduled the abseil at Epsom Racecourse for Saturday, April 13, and extra places are available.
