Biting temperatures of minus six forced a 170-mile charity bike ride by Merton's top cop and TV dragon Theo Paphitis to be postponed.

Merton’s borough commander Darren Williams and six team mates had planned to complete a ‘Tour de Scotland’ on March 13 and 14 in a bid to raise £10,000 for Comic Relief in partnership with Dragon's Den star Mr Paphitis who owns stationery company Rymans.

However the attempt was called off at the last minute after advisors warned against temperatures of minus six and a wind chill of minus 15.

The cycle would have seen the team mates climb more than 7,000 feet - the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon - and visit every Ryman's store in Scotland who have supported Comic Relief for the last four years.

The charity event is now planned to take place on May 2 and 3.
