A strong performance from the Atkinson brothers handed Epsom their 11th victory of the season as they comfortably defeated a youthful Fareham team 6-1.

The result for the Therfield School side keeps their hopes of finishing second in the Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division One alive.

Johnny Hugo opened the scoring for Epsom on five minutes after the two Atkinson brothers, Paul and Mike, linked up with each other down the right hand flank to allow Hugo to hit a well-worked strike past the Fareham keeper.

Despite Fareham putting Epsom under pressure in the early stages of the game Roger A’breo was able to make the score 2-0 after Mike Atkinson played in a cross to the unmarked left back enabling him to score his first goal for the club.

The side from south London were able to score a third goal minutes before half time as Oli Hildrey’s deflected strike found the back of the net following a dragflick from a short corner.

Epsom refused to take their foot of the pedal and were rewarded with a fourth goal five minutes after the restart as Paul Atkinson forced his way up to smash a pass from Andy McNammee past the helpless Fareham keeper.

Any sign of a comeback from Fareham was dashed after a strong period of forceful attacking play resulted in James Midmer teeing up Mike Atkinson to fire his strike into the roof of the net.

Midmer was then able to turn his assist making credentials into goal scoring opportunities as he scored Epsom’s sixth goal of the game after his close range shot cruelly deflected off a Fareham defender to leave the Fareham Keeper stranded.

Fareham fought right to the end and deservedly scored a conciliation goal after a deflection made its way past Jack Bannister in the Epsom goal.

Epsom go to Havant 2nds this weekend.
